Emotional Fireworks
Gospel feeling in the Pfarrzentrum/Standing Ovations for Joy Gospel Singers, Liederchor and Bauernmusi.
Aichach – It was an emotional firework, full of temperament and brilliant vocals: The Joy Gospel Singers were guests last Saturday in the Aichacher Pfarrzentrum. The choir from Santa Lucia, Liederchor Aichach and Aichacher Bauermusi Band excited the audience. Without any doubt: the concert deserved more than 150 listeners which were there on Saturday. The Aichacher Liederchor was in Malta last Year and together with the Joy Gospel Singers they gave a very successful concert. This success strengthened the wish of both choirs for the Joy gospel Singers to visit Aichach. Christine Baier, the president of the Aichacher Liederchor said that the singers from Malta also wanted to see the Bavarian mountains and get to know Munich city. During this evening Baier thanked Birgit Cischek, the president of the Sparkasse Aichach – Schrobenhausen, for the financial support. The Joy Gospel choir which has a good name not only in Malta, was founded by Michelle Abela who is the choir leader at the same time.
Michelle Abela showed her full temperament and her passion for singing and music – she always exploded formally. She also thanked the Aichacher Liederchor for the good organisation and noticed that the interpretations of the Aichacher Bauernmusi are something new for the Maltese audience. She could even pronounce the word “Bauernmusi” in no time.
At first, the 29 members of the Gospel choir sang together with Aichacher Liederchor a Kanon of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: “Dona nobis pacem” (Give us peace). Both choirs were harmonized during all the performances. The spark quickly jumped to the audience who started clapping enthusiastically. The room was filled with rhythm during the song by the Gospel choir “Sweet Jesus” and the solo interpretation “In this house” or “My God” which were perfectly performed. Of course one could not miss the song “ Oh Happy Day”.
The repertoire of the ensembles didn’t only consist of fast paced music, it offered also calm songs with South Afrikan spirituality like “Siyahamba” as an example: a beautiful and balanced mix. With traditional and contemporary gospel music, the choir understood well how to convey the dynamics in the songs. Even “Our Father” of Tigi Saltnatek was performed in Maltese. This song was presented by the Gospel Choir to Pope Benedict when he was in Malta in 2010.
The Joy Gospel Choir was accompanied by Avertano Grech (Pianist), Vince Saliba (Drummer) and Antoine Schembri (Guitarist). In between songs, the Aichacher Bauernmusi played Landler and Zwiefache or the Tanzlied from vom Bauernmadl. They were also very applauded.
The Aichacher Liederchor directed by Josef Putz gave their best interpretation of “Killing me softly” and the evening song of Gottfried Keller “ Augen, meine lieben Fensterlein”. The audience celebrated with them enthusiastically. After a two hour inspiring concert, both choirs sang together “Ein schoner Tag zu Ende geht”. With standing ovations and clapping the enthusiastic audience thanked all the singers and musicians. These were only allowed to leave the stage after performing an extra song requested by the audience.
