Joy Gospel Singers

Joy Gospel Singers was founded in 2002 by Michelle Abela ATCL LTCL (TD), who is the musical director and Dr Carmel Abela, who is the technical and sound director. Michelle developed a love for Gospel music while on a short study sojourn in Ireland, where she joined the Lucan Gospel Singers in Dublin, Ireland. On her return to Malta she founded Joy Gospel Singers in the Parish of Santa Lucija. It was in the local parish church that Joy Gospel Singers gave their first public performance in January 2003. Joy Gospel Singers is today a leading Gospel music choir in Malta.

Since their foundation the Singers have performed at many occasions both in Malta and abroad. Joy Gospel Singers interpret various styles of Gospel music, including traditional and Negro spirituals, as well as contemporary Christian music. They have a vibrant and uplifting style of Christian music, which is the result of the clever musical arrangements of the director and the talented interpretation of the soloists, musicians and the choir. The lively and synchronised choreography adds to the Gospel interpretation of the songs, which convey a positive message of hope.
